From AI Pilots

CLIENT PROFILE

The client is a global bank running fraud detection, a relationship-manager copilot, and next-generation credit-risk models — workloads that had proven themselves in the sandbox and were ready to move into production at enterprise scale.

CLIENT CHALLENGE

The bank’s AI team had real momentum: fraud detection flagged anomalies as they happened, the copilot answered policy questions in seconds, and new risk models beat the legacy scorecards. Then came production. Data could not legally leave the bank’s boundary. Cloud bills swung month to month. Latency spiked without warning. And nobody could answer the CFO’s simple question: what does one million tokens actually cost us, and what happens to that number at scale?
Four barriers blocked the path to enterprise AI: prompts, embeddings, and training data sitting on shared hyperscaler infrastructure was unacceptable to legal and risk for customer PII and transaction records; GPU hours, egress, and API charges made every invoice a surprise with no way to model TCO; noisy neighbours on shared GPUs made real-time inference inconsistent; and separate teams had stitched together Kubernetes, GPU operators, vector databases, and model serving with no single view of cost or utilisation. The bank did not need more GPUs — it needed a private AI platform where data, models, and inference stayed inside the trust boundary, with predictable cost and enterprise-grade operations.

UNITEDLAYER SOLUTION

UnitedLayer deployed UPC AI Factory, a GPU-first, fully managed enterprise private cloud with private AI, delivered end to end as a managed service across three phases in twelve weeks:
1. Discovery & Assessment
  • Mapped the AI workloads — fraud, copilot, risk — and every data flow behind them, capturing hyperscaler baselines for latency, throughput and cost, and agreeing data-control guardrails with legal, risk and security.
2. Parallel Deployment
  • Stood up UPC AI Factory across two primary data centres plus a third for disaster recovery, with isolated tenant vDCs per business line, GPU pools with MIG partitioning, and UPC AI Services — Router, Model Registry, managed Vector DB, and Workbench
3. Cutover & Optimisation
  • Moved production traffic across, decommissioned the hyperscaler GPU clusters, and switched on FinOps dashboards showing GPU-hours, cost per million tokens, and cost to serve per model.

BUSINESS BENEFITS

  • Lowered TCO for AI workloads by 42% , eliminating egress and cross-region charges through fixed-cost GPU capacity and higher utilisation.
  • Achieved sub-100ms p95 inference latency down from an unpredictable 150–250ms on shared infrastructure.
  • Sped up AI training by 40% and kept 100% of data inside the tenant boundary , satisfying internal risk, external auditors, and data-residency requirements in every region.
