Difference Between IPV4/IPV6

“Enterprises should certainly consider that IPv6 is critical for their infrastructure even if they think they have enough IPv4 for the rest of their company’s service existence.”

IPv4 addresses have been fully deployed globally and will eventually be replaced by IPv6. IPv6 will bring advantages, such as more numerical address, simplified address assignments and will eliminate the need for NAT (Network Address Translation), but how critical is it for your company to switch over and when should you switch over? Public facing services such as websites can’t survive on IPv4 only. Why? Because some parts of the Internet may not reach the site. IPv4 is going to be around for some time; however enterprises should be aware of IPv6 and make sure that they work with their provider to determine when the best time is to transition over. Transitioning to IPv6 now, rather than later, may make sense for your business and will avoid the urgency of transitioning later on when IPv4 becomes obsolete.

Find out more about how UnitedLayer works with its customers to transition them over from IPv4 to IPv6. Watch Aaron Hughes, UnitedLayer Chief Network Architect talk about IPv4 and IPv6 and what you need to know.
